Why Overthinking Will Kill Your Business (And What To Do Instead)

Good morning, my friends. Hope you all are doing fantastic today.

Look — I want to have a real talk with you about something that I see kill more businesses than a bad offer, poor marketing, or lack of leads.

It’s overthinking.

If you are an entrepreneur (or want to be), and you’re making decisions slow — or worse, not making decisions at all — your business is going to suffer.

👉 You’ll move too slow.
👉 You’ll miss opportunities.
👉 You’ll waste energy on stuff that does not matter.

I learned this the hard way.

And I want to share the mindset and framework I use now — the one that allows me to make more good decisions than bad, and do it fast.
So you can build your business and your life without constantly being stuck in your own head.

The Truth About Most Decisions

Here’s the reality: 85% of the decisions you make every day should take less than a minute to make.

Yes — less than a minute.

I know that might sound crazy if you’re used to sitting on decisions for hours or days.

But think about this:

👉 Are most of the decisions life-changing? No.
👉 Are most of them even permanent? No.
👉 Are most of them things you can easily course correct on if they don’t work out? Yes.

Yet people spend so much time trying to "get it right."

Should I post this?
Should I wear this?
Should I send this email today or tomorrow?
Should I pick this logo color?

Come on now.

By the time you get through all that mental back-and-forth, you’re exhausted. You burn up your willpower. You got no energy left to make the decisions that actually matter.

And here’s what I tell my clients:
When you waste energy on trivial decisions, you won’t have what you need to make the big ones.

How I Make Decisions (85/15 Rule)

I use what I call the 85/15 Rule:

👉 85% of decisions → less than a minute. Make it. Move forward. If it works, great. If not, pivot. Treat yourself like a mouse in a maze — hit a wall? Cool. Turn and go another direction.
👉 15% of decisions → big ones. These take more thought. For these, I use a simple framework I’ll share in a second.

But first, let me show you why this matters.

A Real Example: My Traffic Event Clients

Recently we hosted a traffic event where we bring clients into our studio, film content with them, and show them our content system.

Almost every time, here’s what happens:

👉 They walk in nervous, worried, overthinking everything.
👉 “How’s my hair?”
👉 “What should I say?”
👉 “What if I sound dumb?”

And I tell them: stop thinking. Just start.

Once they hit record and go through it once, they realize it’s not a big deal. And what happens? They leave with 75-90 days of content, and more importantly, they leave with confidence.

And the ones who succeed are the ones who STOP OVERTHINKING and START TAKING ACTION.

The 15% Framework (For Big Decisions)

Now — there ARE big decisions that deserve more than a minute.
For those, I use this simple framework:

👉 Look at it through the lens of health, wealth, and relationships.

For each area, ask:

  • Health: How will this affect my mental, physical, and spiritual health?

  • Wealth: Will this make money? Will it serve my mission? Will it force me to grow?

  • Relationships: Will this improve my relationships? Will it help me grow in relationships? Will it bring me around the right people?

If a decision checks out positively in those areas — I move forward. If not, I reconsider.

That’s how I made the call not to run a big live event this year.
Mentally and spiritually, I love them. But physically, I can’t handle doing it the way I used to anymore. So I made the call and moved forward.

What You Should Do Next

If you take ONE thing from this, let it be this:

👉 Stop spending days on decisions that don’t matter.
👉 Make fast moves on 85% of the stuff that crosses your path.
👉 Save your deep thinking energy for the 15% of decisions that will actually shape your business and life.

Speed matters in business.
Action builds confidence.
Overthinking builds doubt.

So let’s move, friends.

Much Love,
Greg Todd
