Why Blaming the Economy Won’t Get You Ahead—Build Your Own Path to Success

Why Blaming the Economy Won’t Get You Ahead—Build Your Own Path to Success

October 20, 20244 min read

Good morning, my friends! I hope you’re all having a fantastic Sunday.

Today, I want to hit on something that's been on my mind lately: your economy. And when I say “your economy,” I mean exactly that—yours. Not the world’s, not your country’s, not your state’s… but the economy you control. Because, whether you realize it or not, you have your own economy, and it’s probably a lot stronger than you think.

Let me explain.

This morning, I visited my house to check on some pool repairs. We’ve been dealing with damage from recent storms, and as I walked through my neighborhood, it hit me—some of these local businesses, like Servpro, are thriving right now. You’d think with all the devastation around us, the whole economy would be in ruins. But no. Servpro is killing it because they have their own economy.

They’re busy helping families clean up after the floods, and they’re doing incredibly well at a time when many others might feel like the world’s against them. Why? Because they’ve tapped into a problem people need solved. And that’s when I realized: you and I? We can do the same thing with our personal economies.

Your Economy Is Not the Same as the World’s Economy

Here’s the thing: we’ve all heard the news. We all know that national economies go up and down, and right now, maybe things are looking a little rough. But that doesn’t mean your personal economy has to be in the dumps too. Blaming the broader economy is a way to stay stuck. It’s a way to throw your hands up and say, “Well, guess I’ll just wait for things to get better.” That’s nonsense!

Let me tell you something straight: no one is coming to fix your economy but you.

The Harsh Truth: Thriving Off Other People’s Problems

Now, some of you might say, "But Greg, it sounds so harsh—these businesses are thriving off people’s suffering!" Yeah, you’re right. It is a harsh truth. But you know what? That’s how the world works.

As a healthcare professional, you’re already doing this. If people didn’t get injured, hurt, or sick, guess what? You wouldn’t have a job. Think about it. Your business thrives off solving people’s problems—so why should your economy fail just because the world’s facing problems too?

Instead of waiting around for the tides to change, you need to become the solution to someone’s problem. That’s how you strengthen your personal economy.

Stop Waiting for a Savior—Be Your Own Solution

Here's the reality: you’re not creating money out of thin air. Money is just an exchange of value between people. What that means is, if you want to improve your economy, you’ve got to solve bigger and better problems for people. The more valuable the problem you solve, the more money you make. It’s as simple as that.

Look, I’m not saying ignore what’s happening around you. But I am saying that you can’t let external factors control your personal economy. While others are waiting for the national economy to "bounce back," you could be building a foundation that supports you no matter what’s happening in the world.

What Can You Do Right Now?

  • Assess the Problems You Can Solve: What’s the pain point your skills or business can address right now? Whether it’s providing physical therapy, launching an online course, or coaching others, start solving problems today.

  • Get Creative: Just like Servpro did after the floods, find opportunities in the challenges. Maybe you need to pivot slightly or offer something new. Don’t be afraid to get innovative with your business or career.

  • Stop Waiting for Permission: Waiting for the economy to stabilize is like waiting for someone to come and hand you success. It’s not happening. Build, create, and move forward now.

Final Thoughts

The world is always going to have ups and downs. But what you can control is your own economy. Are you going to sit around and blame the world for what isn’t working? Or are you going to take control, solve problems, and create your own path to success?

Because here’s the bottom line: blaming the economy won’t get you anywhere—but building your own path will.

So, what are you waiting for?
